Quick take: Ahh what a lovely way to start off 2025. I loved this book!! It made me cry {always an indicator of a winner, I love a book that packs an emotional punch} and it was filled with so much growth and love. Excuse me while I go binge this author’s backlist, most of which are available on KU.

Read to meet challenges or interests that call for…

✔️Location: Vermont

✔️Jewish Own Voices

✔️Tropes, etc.: steamy, second-chance, small town, winter/ Christmas/ Hanukkah, only one bed, snowed in, small family-owned business, miscommunication

✔️ Includes a playlist

Other Notes:

  • Topics/cw: grief and loss, chronic illness, mental health, difficult relationship with parents, death of parents by a drunk driver as a young child

  • Fun mentions: snow globes, ice skating, Gilmore girls, grilled cheese, penguins, includes a playlist

  • Nonlinear timeline but not confusing

  • Miscommunication is my least favorite trope and nonlinear timelines throw me off a bit but despite that, I loved this book.

Favorite Quotes & Passages:

“You know how you start to feel all melty, like your limbs turn to honey and everything slows but also heats up, and it feels like your skin is covered in static, but like, the good kind? When you feel like you’re floating, or flying, or just breathing a different kind of air? Or how you feel like your bones and blood and skin are all just magnets to each other and you can’t think about anything else but getting closer and feeling more? I just—I didn’t feel any of it.” She stares back at me for a few long moments as I listen to the murmurs around us in the library, but she doesn’t respond. I wonder if I said too much. If I still have no idea how to talk about boys with my friends. “Well, fuck.” Maya scoffs, her bottom lip falling as she places both palms flat on the table between us. “I want some of that.”

The problem with anger though, is it only hurts those who hold on to it. It doesn’t solve our problems; it can’t change the past.

“Your mom always said all the Jewish holidays were the same. ‘They tried to kill us. We survived. Let’s eat.’” He shrugs.
