📕 Format: Paperback purchased

⭐️ My Thoughts:  Loved it!

Quick Take:

I loved this book — Jean Meltzer is officially a go-to/auto-buy author for me now!

Personal perspective:

Reading about the ongoing pain and pain management that comes with having a chronic illness like this one truly makes me grateful for my own health and I have a renewed appreciation for my body and what it does for me.

Read if you like these tropes/details:

🩵 Forbidden lovers, Romeo & Juliet longstanding family feud vibes

🩵 Jewish romance rep

🩵 He falls first

🩵 Secret/hidden identity

What you can expect:

🩵 Own voices: chronic illness

🩵 Own voices:  Jewish rep

🩵 Bakery yummy goodness

🩵 Slightly steamy - more about the building intimacy

🩵 Wonderful passages with perspective on intimacy, boundaries, and support

Content Warnings

✔️ Chronic Illness

✔️ Survivor’s guilt / loss of family

Random Reading Notes:

  • Interesting twists I didn’t see coming

  • I liked the commentary about the ‘druggie’ brother and it was interesting to learn about medicinal drugs that can help people with chronic pain

  • Wish there was more food and locations that made safe foods

  • Chapter 36 - I really enjoyed the commentary on boundaries

Favorite Quotes:

💭Pg145 Ethan was like finding a well in the middle of a desert. She hadn’t realized till he was sitting there in front of her how much she needed someone to show up and just simply help her.

💭 Pg161 “Food is communal, right? It's sitting around sharing a meal with your friends. Or the experience of eating. The joy of it. The pleasure of tasting something remarkable.”

💭 Pg305 "My mom used to say this thing. 'If your heart is in the right place, it will never lead you in the wrong direction.

💭 Pg378 “But mainly, the most important thing I've realized is that if I'm going to be in pain the rest of my life, then it's even more important that I hold on to my joy. I need to create the life that makes me happy. So that when the bad days come, because they will keep coming, Josh... they don't hurt me as much."

Favorite Passages:

🗒️ Pg320 passage about intimacy and boundaries

🗒️ Pg377 there’s a fantastic passage about chronic illness and identity

🗒️ Pg410 passage about people and change
