Wishing everyone a happy Memorial Day — here’s hoping you enjoyed the long weekend doing something fun or relaxing!

If you’ve spent any time on Instagram and social media the past few days, you’ve likely noticed a major uptick of all things Summer. Summer has splashed its way across my bookstagram feed; I’ve seen a ton of Summer reading lists, Summer reading guides, Summer reading programs, and Summer TBRs.

I panicked for a moment thinking I’d somehow missed the beginning of a new season but then I thought, hang on people, isn’t it still Spring?

I flipped through my calendar and googled First Day of Summer 2024 - only to see that Summer doesn’t actually start until June 20th… which means there’s still another three and a half weeks left of Spring before Summer arrives!

Celebrating the arrival of Summer almost a month before it begins reminds me of seeing holiday décor in stores super early in the year. Even if you do 100% of your shopping online these days, you likely still know what I’m talking about. It’s not unusual to see Halloween décor in August and Christmas décor in September, and I can’t stand it!

Perhaps it’s a tradition that was made or reinforced during my Nordstrom days but I believe in celebrating one holiday at at time and that extends to seasons too. I feel like Spring just began and there’s so many things I love about the season that I’m not ready to say goodbye yet. Needless to say, I’m not quite ready for summer and besides, I haven’t done any spring cleaning yet this year — have you?

One of the biggest things I need to Spring clean is my bookshelves. I’ve gotten so many books over the past year or two — in large part to the generosity of publishers and social media book tours — that my shelves are at max capacity and they’re starting to overflow all over my house. I’m almost embarrassed to admit that I’ve got tons of miscellaneous piles all throughout that I need to sort through.

I’ve been thinking of doing a large bookish ‘unhaul’, and since my birthday is around the corner I’ve decided to make it festive, so be on the lookout for tons of giveaways all throughout June. Please do what you can to enjoy the last blossoming days of Spring before diving into the warm Summer days ahead!
